Kidzport October 26- Hallelujah!
October 27, 2008
Since our big Hallelujah night event is coming up this week, we took a departure from the normal course of events at Kidzport and worked with the kids to get ready for Friday. One of the main focuses on this year’s event is to encourage the kids to bring someone new. I was really pleased to see that most of the kids have at least one other person they were planning on bringing. Many of them, in fact, said they are bringing more than one. This should be our biggest event ever.
We also rehearsed a special song that we are going to be doing for our guests. You’ll have to tune into the GLCCKidz blog next weekend to see how that went. The kids also spent some time decorating props and blowing up balloons in preparation for the weekend’s festivities.
As a reminder: There will be a sign in table in the church foyer for the children. We are asking that parents not stay in the church for the event, for a variety of reasons – but mostly because you deserve a night off! There is going to be Parent’s Hospitality in the Kidzport building for parents – coffee, snacks, games and adult conversation – hosted by Pastors Jim and Andrea.
For parents:
- Encourage your children to invite someone to Hallelujah night if they haven’t already.
- Talk to you child about Halloween – what does it mean to them, and how do they feel not partaking in in? We’ll be talking a little about this on Friday night, but it’s important to have these discussions in the home as well.
Did You Know: Kidzport provides childcare during morning classtimes! If you are enrolled in School of Leaders or a pre- or post-encounter class, we are there to help with your kids. Bring them to the Kidzport second floor. 9;30 – 10:15
Kidzport October 19 – More Revival
October 19, 2008
We had another session on revival today. It was great to see that the kids all remembered the three “H’s” of Revival:
- Hungry
- Holy
- Humble
So we continued the discussion today by talking about the biggest, most important revival ever: the first time anyone was baptized in the Holy Spirt on the day of Pentecost. We read the exciting story of Pentecost in Acts 2. The kids all imagined what it would be like to have a mighty rushing wind blowing through the Kidzport building. Then we talked about the toungues of fire, and the way that the Twelve began speaking in tongues – an everyone heard it in their own language!
We also spent some time talking about what the Pentecost was before Christ died on the Cross – the Feast of Weeks, or the Feast of Firstfruits. The kids learned that fruit weren’t just something to eat. Fruit is the result of something that someone works hard for. So the firstfruits on this particular Pentecost was more than just an offering from the Jewish fruit harvest – it was the first “fruit” from Jesus’ hard work on the Cross. It was the first result of our salvation through Him!
For parents:
- Ask your child what Pentecost means. They should know it was 50 days after Christ died on the Cross (during the Passover.)
- Talk to them about the Holy Spirit. Explain the other “fruit” that we recieve from the Holy Spirit, as listed in Galatians 5:22
- Read with them the story in Acts 2, and get their impressions from it.
Kidzport October 12 – Covenants
October 12, 2008
verse was James 2:23…
Abraham believed, and God counted it as righteousness, and he was called the Friend of God.
We talked a bit about sacrifice, and about Abram’s (Abraham’s) sacrifice in Genesis 15. Then we talked about the vultures in the story, and how they represent the devil, trying to steal the things that we want to give to God. Finally, we shared a bit on covenants, and how they differ from contracts.
We then watched a short video on Abraham and Isaac. The kids got to see who Isaac was, who Ishamael was, and about the sacrifice that God asked Abraham to be willing to make.
For Parents:
- Ask your kids about vultures – what kind of things come up to “steal” what they try to give to God.
- Find out if they are willing to “sacrifice” anything for God. (playtime, video games, short fasts…)
- Ask them to tell you what a “covenant” is, and recite the key verse.
Kidzport October 5 – Fig Leaves
October 6, 2008
Since Pastor Mike was preaching at Gospel Light Sunday, we have to give big thanks to SonLife cell leader Sister Celia for sitting in and taking over Kidzport this week.
The lesson was based on Pastor Pedro’s message of Trading Fig Leaves for Garments of Skin. The conversation involved the ideas of shame and embarrassment.
For parents:
- Ask your kids what Adam and Eve were wearing in the Garden before they ate of the apple.
- Talk to them about why we are embarrassed about showing our bodies. (and we should be!)
- Explore with them where this shame comes from, and what other things they might be ashamed of.
Remember, October 31 is Hallelujah Night. All the kids and their friends are invited. We will start at 7 pm at the church, 222 Charles Street.
