KidzPort August 22 – Eat Up!

    August 22, 2010

We’ve had a busy couple of weeks at KidzPort.  Last weekend was the annual Father and Son Campout, and most of the boys spent theweekend in upstate New York.   Yesterday, we had Kids ROCK Day with our friends at House of Restoration in Hartford.  A lot of our kids went, and had a great time.   We’re looking forward to returning the favor when some of the HoRC kids come for Hallelujah Night this year!

Today we continued our journey through the book of Acts with some more about Peter.  A couple of weeks ago, we learned that Saul had a special calling on his life: to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles.  But God has a message for Peter regarding the Gentiles as well.

When Peter was praying one day, he got very hungry.  He had a dream about a large sheet being lowered from Heaven, tied up at the corners.  When it came to the ground, it opened, and he saw all kinds of animals, birds and creepy things.  A voice said “Rise, Peter, Kill and eat!” But Peter was a devout Jew, and would not eat anything that was not permitted by the Law.  He would not touch unclean animals.  So he said “No!  (Imagine saying “No!” to God – but we do it all the time!!)  He says that he would never eat anything unclean.

God answers Peter, and says that what God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.   Peter still refused.  He refused three times!!  Then God removed the sheet. Peter thought God was talking about food.  But He wasn’t!!

Jews didn’t only not touch unclean food.  They didn’t want to spend time with anyone who wasn’t Jewish.  They though the “Gentiles” were unclean, too.  But – God had cleansed the Gentiles, and sent them a messenger.  It wasn’t up to Peter to turn away from them.

KidzPort August 8 – Going Over It

    August 8, 2010

We’ve had a busy couple of weeks.  Last week, the older KidzPort kids stayed in church to listen to the message on taking action.  This week, we paused to review the early story of Saul and what happened to him on the way to and in Damascus.   You can review that, and next time we will move on.

We will be participating in a special event in a couple of weeks: Kids Rock Day, hosted by House of Restoration Church in Hartford.  HoRC is a good friend of KidzPort, and we will be looking forward to this event.  All the kids and their families are invited, and we are hoping that the kids will invite some of their friends.  This will basically be a rock concert for kids, with an evangelistic message.

Next weekend will be our annual Father and Son Campout weekend, so we won’t have a regular KidzPort session, but we will still be working with the kids.   And of course, our Children’s Revival will be September 18 and 19.

KidzPort June 27 – Been Busy

    June 28, 2010

KidzPort has been pretty active lately.   I’ll take this update to make sure everyone is aware of what we’ve been doing, and what things are coming up.

We’re looking forward to taking the kids on some trips this summer, so we held a carwash on June 19 to help raise funds for that.  It was a great day, and we had a lot of fun.  Look for another one in July.

    KidzPort Carwash

We also participated in Gospel Light’s outreach efforts at the Barnum Festival Great Street Parade.  Some of the kids handed out free cold water bottles and invitations to people watching the parade.  It was hot, and tiring, but they got to speak with almost 100 people.

Coming up:  This week is Family Night at KidzPort. We’re meeting Wednesday, June 30 in the church at 7:15 for another night of fun and activities.  All families are welcome and encouraged to come!

There are still tickets left for KidzPort Night at the Bridgeport Bluefish.  Details and a link to buy tickets can be found here. The date is Tuesday, July 20.

Rock the Block is an outreach event sponsored by our Transformers Youth Ministry, which will involve the entire church.  More details to come!

    Out Street Team

We have a tentative event scheduled on Saturday, August 21, so keep the date clear. It’s called ROCK Day, and it’s hosted by our friend at House of Restoration in Hartford.  More details are coming.

Our Chidren’s Revival Weekend is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, September 19-20.   We will again be joined by Studio-Z.  Be sure to invite every child you know!

Don’t forget Hallelujah Night! Sunday, October 31.

    KidzPort April 4 – It’s EASTER!

    April 6, 2010

Yes, Easter…   the most important day of the year in the life of a Christian.    Add to that the fact it was a simply glorious New England day  - sunny, warm…  everything you need!

Here’s some pictures of our kids on Easter morning.  Enjoy!   Christ is Risen!

Schedule Note:   There will be no KidzPort Cell on Friday, April 9.

Kidzport December 13 – Getting Ready

    December 14, 2009

kp1It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

…and that means busy times around KidzPort, as we get ready for our annual Christmas Cantata.  The show will be Saturday, December 19th.  Doors open at 6pm, and we plan to kick off at 6:30.  You want to come early to get a good seat.

We spent the last couple of Sundays getting ready, which generally means rehearsing songs.  The kids are doing a great job this year, and we look forward to seeing them do their stuff on Saturday.  (We also had time for some arts and crafts as well! )

The schedule for the Cantata looks like this:

3:30pm  – participating children should be at the church for a last dress rehearsal and run-through.  They should bring, or be wearing, pajamas.  (Please, no nightgowns unless there are pajama pants underneath!)   We will provide dinner for the kids.

    6:00pm – Doors open

    6:30pm – Scheduled start.

Participating this year will be the Send Judah First gospel choir, Gospel Light Worship, and the GLCC Dance Team.  Be sure to come and invite!! Refreshments will be provided.

    Hallelujah Night

    November 2, 2009

What a great night we had at Hallelujah Night this Saturday.  Hallelujah Night is Gospel Light’s alternative to Halloween.  This year we had about 40 kids in attendance.   We had games, music, food, face-painting, pumpkin decorating, video games and slime-making.

Thanks to all the volunteers who made this night such a success!

    Hallelujah Night is Coming!

    October 27, 2009

This Saturday we will hold our annual Hallelujah Night celebration, from 7-10 in the sanctuary at 222 Charles Street.

All children 4-12 are invited, and there will be a hospitality for parents in the KidzPort building, hosted by Pastors Pedro and Amy.   Hallelujah night is a safe, Christ-centered alternative to Halloween, and is annually one of the best children’s events we have.   Why not join us?

KidzPort September 20 – Revival in da HOUSE!

    September 22, 2009

This was a very unique and wonderful weekend for KidzPort!   This weekend was our first ever Kidz Revival Weekend.  And it was a great success.

    The New, Kid-Friendly Sanctuary

We began the weekend on Saturday morning, with a kickoff celebration featuring Studio-Z, a student-run children’s ministry from Zion Bible College.  Studio-Z is a travelling ministry, and at 8:15am they rolled their trailer up to the church door and began unloading and setting up.   By the time they were done, the sanctuary of Gospel Light Community Church looked nothing like it had before!!

    "Jesus You're My Superhero!!"

The Revival kicked off with a worship celebration led by Studio-Z.  The team demonstrated to the kids the two songs that the weekend would revolve around: “One Way” and “Jesus, You’re My Superhero.”  Oh, yes, there were dance moves that went along with each of the songs, you can be sure.

We broke for our first session, into groups by age.  Our 4-6 year olds did a lesson on unforgiveness called “Bitter Roots”  We demonstrated this with small capsules that turned into animal shapes when put into water.  No one could tell how large or what shape each of the capsules would become – just like a “root” of unforgiveness.  We also showed them some plant roots to demonstrate how long and deep these unseen things were.   Our 6-9 year olds made a cross out of the “Colors of Faith” over a black template, demonstrating how things like purity, God’s light, new life in Christ, loyaty, faith and the Blood of Christ cover sin and death.  The 10-12 year olds did a Bible scripture hunt, led by our college-age cell group.

Kidz Revival 010 (Large)Another session with Studio-Z followed: more worship, some drama and puppets.  We met some of the crazy characters that would show up throughout the weekend.  Our second breakout flipped the two younger groups, while the older group played “Twisted in Sin” – a Twister game with a message.

    "You know Jesus, yah?"

After lunch and some more time with Studio-Z (involving a mad scientist of questionable European descent!) the final breakouts had both young groups doing a Bible scripture hunt, while the older group went on a “Treasure Hunt” of sorts: deciphering clues to find hidden scriptures scattered around the property.  These scriptures in turned helped each team to solve a riddle.  This was the best event of the day, by far!

We closed with a final, family celebration, where parents came and saw some of what the kids had been doing all day, and heard their children giving testamonies as to what they had learned.  Everyone was looking forward to Sunday’s worship celebration, led by Studio-Z!

    KidzPort July 12th – Celebrate!!

    July 13, 2009

    Commissioning 095 (Large)

We had a really busy and exciting weekend at Gospel Light.   There were multiple celebrations: a new Senior Pastor, a new church plant, old friends coming to visit.  You can read about that all here.

Since there was so much going on, we decided to take advantage of KidzPort time and just have some fun!   Nothing wrong with a little fun, right?   So this week, Shannon, Mariah and Amanda helped all the kids to make tie-dye tee shirts for the summer.  It was a lot of work (and a huge mess!) but everyone got to pick there own colors and designs.

During the week, Shannon will rinse and wash the shirts, and hopefully we can hand them out at cell Friday night.  Stay tuned for a fashion show!!
