KidzPort June 27 – Been Busy
June 28, 2010
KidzPort has been pretty active lately. I’ll take this update to make sure everyone is aware of what we’ve been doing, and what things are coming up.
We’re looking forward to taking the kids on some trips this summer, so we held a carwash on June 19 to help raise funds for that. It was a great day, and we had a lot of fun. Look for another one in July.
We also participated in Gospel Light’s outreach efforts at the Barnum Festival Great Street Parade. Some of the kids handed out free cold water bottles and invitations to people watching the parade. It was hot, and tiring, but they got to speak with almost 100 people.
Coming up: This week is Family Night at KidzPort. We’re meeting Wednesday, June 30 in the church at 7:15 for another night of fun and activities. All families are welcome and encouraged to come!
There are still tickets left for KidzPort Night at the Bridgeport Bluefish. Details and a link to buy tickets can be found here. The date is Tuesday, July 20.
Rock the Block is an outreach event sponsored by our Transformers Youth Ministry, which will involve the entire church. More details to come!
We have a tentative event scheduled on Saturday, August 21, so keep the date clear. It’s called ROCK Day, and it’s hosted by our friend at House of Restoration in Hartford. More details are coming.
Our Chidren’s Revival Weekend is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, September 19-20. We will again be joined by Studio-Z. Be sure to invite every child you know!
Don’t forget Hallelujah Night! Sunday, October 31.
KidzPort Feburary 15 – Drawing Near
February 16, 2009
We had a great conversation this week about drawing near to God. The topic came from last week’s message by Sister Amy.
One fun thing that we did was show the difference between one person moving toward another, and two people moving toward each other. It takes a lot less work to approach someone if they are moving toward you at the same time – especially if their steps are a lot bigger than yours.
Our tex this week was from James 4:7-10.
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
We also talked about why we must approach God with “clean hands” and a “pure heart.”
For Parents:
- Demonstrate what it means to “draw close” by striving to draw close to your child this week.
- Practice the memory verse with your child: James 4:8
Also this weekend, some members of KidzPort shared in song at Beacon of Light Community Church in Waterbury. Click for bigness.
Kidzport October 26- Hallelujah!
October 27, 2008
Since our big Hallelujah night event is coming up this week, we took a departure from the normal course of events at Kidzport and worked with the kids to get ready for Friday. One of the main focuses on this year’s event is to encourage the kids to bring someone new. I was really pleased to see that most of the kids have at least one other person they were planning on bringing. Many of them, in fact, said they are bringing more than one. This should be our biggest event ever.
We also rehearsed a special song that we are going to be doing for our guests. You’ll have to tune into the GLCCKidz blog next weekend to see how that went. The kids also spent some time decorating props and blowing up balloons in preparation for the weekend’s festivities.
As a reminder: There will be a sign in table in the church foyer for the children. We are asking that parents not stay in the church for the event, for a variety of reasons – but mostly because you deserve a night off! There is going to be Parent’s Hospitality in the Kidzport building for parents – coffee, snacks, games and adult conversation – hosted by Pastors Jim and Andrea.
For parents:
- Encourage your children to invite someone to Hallelujah night if they haven’t already.
- Talk to you child about Halloween – what does it mean to them, and how do they feel not partaking in in? We’ll be talking a little about this on Friday night, but it’s important to have these discussions in the home as well.
Did You Know: Kidzport provides childcare during morning classtimes! If you are enrolled in School of Leaders or a pre- or post-encounter class, we are there to help with your kids. Bring them to the Kidzport second floor. 9;30 – 10:15
Kidzport October 5 – Fig Leaves
October 6, 2008
Since Pastor Mike was preaching at Gospel Light Sunday, we have to give big thanks to SonLife cell leader Sister Celia for sitting in and taking over Kidzport this week.
The lesson was based on Pastor Pedro’s message of Trading Fig Leaves for Garments of Skin. The conversation involved the ideas of shame and embarrassment.
For parents:
- Ask your kids what Adam and Eve were wearing in the Garden before they ate of the apple.
- Talk to them about why we are embarrassed about showing our bodies. (and we should be!)
- Explore with them where this shame comes from, and what other things they might be ashamed of.
Remember, October 31 is Hallelujah Night. All the kids and their friends are invited. We will start at 7 pm at the church, 222 Charles Street.
